Why We Love It

The Rolex Cellini reference 4084 is a timepiece that hails from the iconic Cellini collection, known for its elegant and sophisticated designs. It is a dressier line that contrasts the sport and tool watches that are more typical of the brand. Named after the renowned Italian artist-sculptor, Benvenuto Cellini, the collection introduced in the late-1960s aimed to pay tribute to the classical arts and to traditional watchmaking. This particular model from the 1970s showcases the exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail that Rolex is renowned for while capturing perfectly the zeitgeist of an exuberant and eclectic era.

The Cellini 4084 features a unique square case with curved sides and radiused corners crafted from 18k yellow gold, a luxurious and enduring material. The case diameter measures 30mm, a size suitable for all dress-watch lovers. Radial brushing and notches carved into the bezel to indicate hours and minutes bestow a sculptural quality upon the watch and make it distinct from other more pedestrian time-only dress watches.

The dial is brilliant with its golden champagne sunburst finish that catches light beautifully. The baton style hands provide excellent legibility while maintaining a dignified aesthetic. It is uncluttered and facilitates a refined air.

The caliber 1602 movement that powers the Cellini 4084 is renowned for its precision and reliability. The movement comprises 20 jewels and beats at a frequency of 19,800 vibrations per hour. Though the Cellini collection typically focuses on elegance rather than technical complications, the movement remains a testament to Rolex’s commitment to quality.-The Cellini ref.4084 ultimately balances simplicity with sophistication making it suitable for both formal and casual occasions. It is a fun and thoughtful choice for a discerning watch enthusiast seeking a classic and tasteful timepiece.
